Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey was born on February 1st, 1987 making her 27 years old. Before her rise in the UFC she began Judo with her mother at the age of 11 and by the age of 17, Rousey Qualified for the 2004 Olympic games in Athens. Her appearance in the 2004 Olympics made her the youngest Judoka in the entire Games. She then went on to win a gold medal at the 2004 World Junior Judo Championships in Hungary. In April 2006, she became the first female U.S Judoka in nearly 10 years to win an A-Level tournament as she went 5-0 to claim gold at the Birmingham World Cup in Great Britain. Later that year, the 19-year-old won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships; becoming the first U.S. athlete ever to win two Junior World medals. Her career as a Judoka was beyond impressive, winning massive amounts of Medals.
After her retirement from Judo, Rousey had 3 amateur MMA fights and won all 3 due to armbar submission. All fights combined were less than 2 minutes - 1st fight she defeated Hayden Munoz in 23 seconds, 2nd fight she defeated Autumn Richardson in 57 Seconds and 3rd fight she defeated Ediane Gomes in 25 seconds. In November 2012 she became first female fighter to sign with the UFC and three months later she became the first female fighter to headline a UFC event. Ronda Rousey single handedly helped bring female mixed martial arts to a mainstream audience en route to becoming the first UFC women's champion. Her approach in the Octagon and the way she fights is phenomenal. To date, she is undefeated (10-0) with 8 submissions and 2 knockouts. She is ranked number 1 pound-for-pound female MMA fighter in the world.
Her influence goes beyond the fighting Octagon. She gets regular modeling work and also has turned into acting roles in The Expendables 3, Fast & Furious 7. She has also been apart of plenty of charity work. She established The Gompers Middle School Judo Program back in 2009. The goal of this program is to enrich the student’s lives through sport and to provide them an outlet where they can be part of a team and challenge themselves to do something they didn't think they could. On May 12, 2013 Ronda Rousey auctioned of a pair of fight shorts to benefit the Seven Stars Foundation. The winning bid won Ronda’s autographed fight shorts which were worn in the Julia Budd fight at Strikeforce Challengers 20 on November 18, 2011. All proceeds went to benefit the Seven Stars Foundation. The Seven Stars Foundation, Inc. "Will Never Forget" the sacrifices made by the men and women who have served or are serving our country. Before each title fight, Ronda hosts a Free Rice contest to raise food for the hungry, since she is cutting weight and knows what it feels like to be hungry. Between the last four fights, she has helped donated more than over 128 Million grains of rice to the World Food Program. Since one bowl of rice is about 3,400 grains and comes out to about 3 cups of cooked rice, that is enough to feed approximately 37,778 people! She has also raised money for St. John’s the Baptist Church, Mike Larsen (athlete of the Blind Judo Foundation) and many more. Ronda was a recipient of the Didi Hirsch’s 2014 Erasing the Stigma Leadership Awards – an event held annually to honor advocates of mental health.

She trains with Team Hayastan and Glendale Fighting Club. UFC president, Dana White, once promised to never promote a fight between women but that changed when he met Ronda Rousey. Dana White said, “You could line up all the greatest girls on Earth from here to Pluto, and she’s the one that when I met her I said, this chick is insanely competitive and just a different animal and she’s what it took to get women in the UFC.” Thanks to Ronda Rousey, women are able to fight in the UFC. Although the UFC gets a good amount of views and fan-base, it still isn’t mainstream but to think of the things Ronda Rousey has accomplished in a brutal sport dominated by men is shocking.
